Sasha

Sasha, of course, is a terrier. However, I am not sure what type of terrier. I suspect that she possibly has some fox terrier and/or perhaps some Jack Russel terrier genes in her. She certainly has that alert terrier look!





She is pregnant and we received her from the Bakersfield, California Animal Shelter. It looks as if she has had a recent litter and is pregnant again so we are giving her vitamins and a calcium supplement so she can produce healthy puppies and remain healthy herself. After she weans this litter, we will, of course, have her spayed so she will never become pregnant again...

We have no idea what breed or combination of breeds the sire of this litter is. It will be interesting to see what the puppies look like...

She is a sweet darling girl and will make someone a great family addition...

BTW: Although I do love Maltese, it is enjoyable photographing dogs with other than pure white coats...

We were told by the shelter and we suspect (from the condition of her teeth) that she is four or five years old.

The Bakersfield, California shelter has a pro-active way to place their dogs. They contact various rescue groups throughout the state and then have a large air conditioned truck with spaces for the dogs and will transport those dogs away from Bakersfield to points at which the dogs are picked up by rescue groups like ours. They especially try to place pregnant dogs and mothers with young litters in this fashion.

It is really beneficial, both from a health concern and from a psychological concern to have young puppies placed in foster homes where they can be safe and also receive human attention.

We presently have one litter of four Maltese-Pug puppies and we have two terriers who are pregnant. One terrier, Amber, has a litter fathered by a Maltese (these pups should be born any time now) and Sasha has her litter fathered by an unknown sire.

We took Sasha to the vet today and learned that she is carrying five puppies.



BINGO!

Sasha has, while I was writing this, given birth to four females and one male puppy! The puppies are all white with black spots except for the boy who is pure white...

As a reward for her god work, Sasha got a new dog bed today! The bunting box that we use for our Maltese and other smaller rescue dogs is just too small. Besides, Amber and her puppies are using the bunting box. Usually, for smaller dogs, this box works quite well during the first two weeks or so...



The new bed is nice and large and will easily accommodate Sasha and her five puppies. I will get images of her and her little family in their new bed as soon as we get her and the pups transferred.

Sasha will move her puppies around using her nose to push them onto a group and guide them to her nipples...

They are really cute little things with their black markings...
