Dolphins - they don't scare me!!

Today I am working on the Dolphin shots.
At around 08:40 every morning the ferry to Key West would round the Northern end of the island and then throttle up as they got out of the idle zone. I noticed a bunch of people would stop and watch as she went by. What? Have they never seen a boat before? Well, it wasn't the boat they were watching...it was the Dolphins jumping in the wake left by the boat. I am sure they have a method to their madness but it appeared to me that they were just playing. Fun to watch every morning.

BTW dolphins are more dangerous than pelicans. I know of two guys who have suffered serious injuries from dolphins jumping over them (or trying to) while they sitting on their boards.

That's cool. You did good capturing them in the air. They do love a boat wake. Still a big mystery to marine biologists. Why do people have such a hard time with the concept that maybe critters like to have fun too?

The seventh one is by far the most appealing for me, mostly because I don't remember seeing a similar photo of a dolphin and secondarily because you did such an excellent job with it.

There is an inconsistent quality among the images of the dolphins in the air. You might want to think about doing a more rigorous job of culling before deciding what to post, depending of course on the goals you hope to achieve.

Mike, Thanks for the comments. The first 6 were taken from the beach at 250mm which is as far as I go so the pics posted were a pretty severe crop...they came from something like this...



I posted these pics more for the "Hey this was really cool to see" rather than "How perfect are these".
These were just a quick crop, straighten and sharpen.

Isabel, Thanks for your comments. I really wanted #5 to work...I thought the boat directly behind the dolphin would help but I will admit that it didn't. Oh well, never hurts to try!!!
