After two weeks of heavy rain, the low pressure system delivered the goods on Sunday morning - decent surf!
Here's the set up. To get out past the break, you have to work you way along a rocky outcrop during the sets (1), and then, when you think the moment is right (ideally during a lull) you run to the end of the rocks (2) throw yourself over the wave and paddle your heart out (3).
#1 Cautiously working your way along the outcrop...
#2 Running for the edge...
#3 Launching off the rocks
But things don't always go to plan. This guy probably realised too late that he had miss timed his entry.
#4
He certainly knows it now. Instead of clearing the wave, it has him firmly in its grip

I lost sight of him after this moment and it was about thirty seconds later that I discovered him back along the outcrop. Yep, that tiny little black circle in the middle of the rocks is his head. The wave drove him back several metres and deposited him in a crevice. But where is his board? It's in there with him!
#6
He disappeared from view again and several waves washed over the rocks, and I was becoming concerned. But then he popped up again, with his board and all was ok... Well, almost... his board was damaged and he left the water. But at least he kept his head.

This was my first outing with my new 70-300mm lens and I am pretty impressed with the quality of the images. These were all shot almost directly into the early morning sun breaking through overcast skies.
