Great shots, Greg! 'Reminds me of home...
Donald, I was also thinking that the image was a bit too centred but I see that Greg was trying to show the rock platform of where the guy was standing before he did his jump...then he followed it up with two good ones in shots #2 and #3. A good story I think with the first one, wrong placing (or not...) of the guy. It works for me..
Another good set.
All three photos are just perfect. Don't change a thing. Your post-processing of the water is ideal; great detail!
Wow!
Great set Greg,well captured!
Great images Greg
Jeff, Donald, Izzie, John 2, John, Mike, Andrew, David and Binnur, thanks again for viewing and commenting. I am really glad you enjoy these photos. I took well over 500 shots, and haven't rejected any yet (even though some are crap) but that is probably because 40 years ago I would have been out there amongst it rather than standing on the shore photographing it. I can sit and look photos of the surf / beach all day and not get bored.
Donald, I did consider cropping off the left. I generally avoid centred subjects but I decided that this shot doesn't really work without the curl of the wave on the left. There is too much white-water and it loses and the waves lose definition without the shadows. Also, the guy standing there is not doing anything to hold attention, so I felt that both the guy needed to appear 'surrounded' by those waves to give the viewer an impression of the drama going on out there.
Mike thanks for commenting on the processing. It was overcast and showery, and I turned to EC up to try to capture detail in the white-water. That was contrary to my usual practice of turning EC down to captures the whites in birds' feathers and boats around the harbour. But it all seems to have worked out in the processing.
Binnur...EC stands for Exposure compensation...you know the +/- you see on top of your camera to change the brightness of your shot? That's the one!
Great shots Greg! You've really managed to capture the power behind the water. It looks like a blast to do.
Thanks, Kyle. It was indeed a blast. With action going on at several different places, and me not wanting to miss any of it, it was quite a hectic time. But while it was great to be there and watch it first hand, it is great to have it on the computer so I can relive it (every day, at the moment, lol )
No...far from it. She once sang quite a while back and her neighbours across the road thought the sound was coming from a woman being strangled, so a few of them actually called 911
he was talking about me...
Better get back to the comments before Greg kill us for hijacking his show...THIS IS GREG's SHOW!!!
