A natural, and almost straight out of camera, rocks near the sea shore.
Natural abstract by dicktay2000, on Flickr
Shane - very cool image. You state that colors are close to natural; is the abstract quality a result of the natural play of light and water? I'm curious about how much processing was involved. (I get fixated sometimes staring at light on water.)
Richard - That is quite an amazing find and image; well done!
Thank you Andrew.
I many have exaggerated SOOC a bit but the adjustments were minimal and made the colors of the tide pool pop. I adjusted the white and black points, and increased the contrast to get the image as you see it. However, I will say the adjustments did not alter what I saw in reality.
I also really liked Richard's image and yours is really cool too Andrew. Was you image manipulated or simply a crop from an almost vertical hillside? I have an abstract of the side of a building that I need to process from my recent trip. I like it but will be interested what others think...
Shane - Thank you for the explanation. While your image is close to reality and beautifully done mine was an experiment in manipulation. The image has been cropped and rotated, with selectively large changes in exposure and contrast. Can't say it's something I impressed myself with but it was an interesting experiment. Here is the original which I did last December, if memory serves it is cropped with only some slight adjustments otherwise. At the time I was too terrified of moving the sliders in Lightroom to make big adjustments. I'm still not comfortable making dramatic alterations but I try a bit now and then as I explore how I want images to look.
Andrew, the original shot has shades of Gursky although I doubt if you could get $4 million for yours.
Thanks for sharing your process and thinking.
Interesting shot Greg...love the red and the texture in the shot.
