Staithes - Just a Nice Place.

Some holiday shots really from our recent short break, but a place I have always been fond of. Staithes is a small quaint fishing port and village tucked away in a deep cleft in the cliffs of the Yorkshire coastline. No visitors cars are allowed and so it's a steep walk down from the cliff top. When you get there though, it's very photogenic. The figures in the second image are my brother and our Miniature Schnauzer. My other half, ever shy, is hiding at the other end of the dog lead. The Cod and Lobster is a must if only to take on board more fuel for the climb out back to the car. Posted out of interest but comments still welcome.

Charming place, obviously. Nice images, which I think will evoke for you the sense you had when there. I think a little more foreground than needed in the last few. Great curved leading line in the third, which might be more effective a little lower in the frame. Thanks for sharing about this picturesque visit.

Thanks Leslie. I suspect it's not so peaceful in the summer at the height of the tourist season but it seems to retain its charm.

Smashing images - strange to think that at one time Staithes was one of the most important fishing ports between the Wash and the Tees, even more important than Whitby ! Unfortunately, as with many other areas, the fishing has died out and the village, especially close to the harbour, is now mainly holiday homes.

Nice shots, Steve. I like the 2nd one: the light and the colours, and the narrow roadway really evoke the sense of quaintness that you mention.

Brought back some memories there John. Excellent shots, well composed. Haven't been down there for a couple (50) years. Nice area.

We used to parachute on the moors above Robin Hood Bay and walk down to the pubs for the evening, hell walking back.
