Hi Brian,

I like the composition of the shot. The edges of the leaves lead my eye to the center. I also like the way you've captured the texture of the leaves. I don't know if you were going for the dark center or not. If not, you might want to lighten it a bit. Maybe you could recover the shadows. It's a nice shot.

not sure that Gimp allows for local exposure increase but it does do dodging and burning. If that is the same thing?

Hello Brian, nice shot!
sure, Gimp allows that: simply duplicate the layer and change the shadows using levels, curves or whatever. Then apply a transparent layer mask and paint the shadow in the center.

for this old troglodyte simple and layers are not two words I would put together but one of these days I shall have to take the plunge.
