    In The Surf

I still haven't had much time for photography lately so I had this wacky idea of putting a camera on my wave ski (essentially a surfboard that you sit on) and taking photos and videos.

Originally I started off with a Go Pro like camera and managed to pull these shots out of the videos I captured.

I'll get into my set up a bit later - which is a now a little bit different to what I started off with. C&C welcome.

Mal, although only small resolution here they are pretty impressive quality for a camera on a wave ski.

I'm not sure about that 2nd one, Mal, but I like the other 3.

Incidentally, I see cyclists riding around with cameras mounted on their heads. Is that the kind of thing you are using?

Sorry - fixed the resolution now. I always have problems with Flickr

The one you're talking about Greg is one where someone dropped onto the wave in front of me. I would have liked a clearer shot of him but the camera cut out recording halfway through the wave.

My current set up is below - my go pro unfortunately broke so I'm currently experimenting with my dive camera!

All shots have their merits Mal, #3 is my pick as well.
Wouldn't have got into the water here yesterday, It got to a whole 10 degrees, have to love Tassie weather.
Aiming at getting up your way at Christmas.
Looking forward to some more of your images.

Seems like the wall of the wave is the most popular. I'll have to see if I can get a shot with Surfers Paradise at the end - perfect surfing conditions required!

Everyone says hi Greg. It was 13 degrees when I left home yesterday Greg so not that much warmer! At least at that time of the morning. Kerry took a photo of me this morning so you can see what the rig looks like on the water.

Wonderfully imaginative and innovative (well, I've never seen it done before) photography with the potential, I'd have thought. to make some amazing pictures.

When it's 13 degrees in Alaska the water is a bit harder and we ride it with different equipment. Things really are upside down there aren't they

Dan when I was living in Oz full time, we always lose the Melbournians to the Queenslander. They go there in droves as it was too cold in Melbourne...the weather and the sceneries are probably much nicer there too...;(

Anyoldwho...I too like #3, Mal. I also have a Go-Pro but never really found a use for it but for two things: connect it to the airplane and occasionally, one of the rambunctious doggie.

Just to remind you to number your uploaded photo, please??

Still tweaking my set up at the moment - I keep accidentally banging the camera with my candle when I'm on the wave. I'm also getting water droplets on the lens so I need to figure out a way of trying to repel the water.

I've been away too long - I didn't realise there was a numbering system in place ! We used to use the little camera for diving (it's an Intova) but got frustrated with it because it kept stopping recordings short. It's completely dead now though - I'm not sure if I'm game to take my underwater camera into larger surf though...

There's not, but if Izzie tells you to do it, you better listen and listen good!

To be honest the last two are probably a bit average but I thought I'd post them up anyway. A couple of things you should know about the camera set up though when these photos were taken:

    - There were water droplets on the lens - still haven't figured out how to get rid of those;
    - Attached to the underwater housing is an underwater wide angle wet lens. To get it to work properly I actually have to fill the space between the lens port and the underwater housing with water otherwise the camera won't focus at all - it has enough trouble as it is.
    - I can't actually see what i'm taking a photo of because of where the camera is mounted.

    Re: In The Surf

With the droplets on the lens problem Mal, there is a product called RainX that is used on the windscreen of cars to repell water. I use it and basically I don't need windscreen wipers while driving in the rain. I guess it is a silicone of sorts and I'm not sure how it might effect a camera lens but it certainly works well. Might be worth looking into.
    Cheers, Greg

So Greg - I've discovered Rain X still doesn't work
