I have bee looking for this for a long time....
I have been doing research on fishing tackle for the up-coming fishing season since my son in law has recently purchased a great boat for ocean fishing and I am going down to the East Cape of Baja California for a few days in August.
Anyway, I have found this item which is a little lightweight for my type of salt water fishing but which would work just great for either still photography or video photography in conjunction with a monopod...

For fishing, you just slip it over your belt or trousers and place the rod butt in the Gut Saver. However, adjusting a monopod to the right height, this would give you a great way to stabilize your camera by placing the butt of the monopod into the Gut Saver cup.
I use this type of rod holder for my fishing and it works just great for camera stabilization with a monopod. It's a little big for all-around photography use but works on the same principle as the Gut Saver...

Note: The Gut Saver is not recommended when you are wearing just a bathing suit unless you want the suit down around your knees

I have used an even simpler strategy by simply turning the front of a wide belt outwards and resting the end of a monopod against the belt. Also works using one leg of a tripod.
