    My First PiF

I have been trying to capture a Pelican in flight ever since I bought my camera a couple of years ago, but none of the results has ever been acceptable. But then yesterday, just as I got out the car, this one came gliding by low and slow, and I was able to shoot a quick couple of frames.

    C&C invited.

Sorry folks, after I posted this image I discovered once again that I had a problem with the colour and have spent the last few hours since then reworking it. I think this is more how it should look.

Nicely done, Greg. The second version is processed much better and the extra space is better IMO. When we were visiting we figured out pretty quick that if you hang out at a boat launch when the fishermen are returning you can get more pelican action than you can handle.

Thanks Grahame, Kyle, Richard, Rita and Dan.

The problem isn't a lack of pelicans, Dan, it is my slow-wittedness . I know when a trawler is coming in, even though I can't see it, because the pelicans begin arriving first and perching on the high spots to await it.

Thanks Izzie, John 2, John, Christina, Nancy and Binnur. The new lens is definitely paying off in terms of IQ and ability to catch moments like this.

Just to endorse what's been said already. Super picture.

I admire you folks who work hard at making these quality images of birds in flight. Anytime I've tried it's been a disaster. It's a case of not having practiced enough. I prefer things like trees and walls. They don't move so much!
