    I agree. I understand the idea behind the crop, but I think it weakens the composition.

    Thanks Donald. I actually returned there yesterday and took more shots, off to one side or the other. It does change the image and I did get some interesting new shots yet, none seem to look as 'right' as my first (uncropped) shot here.

    +1 for the image in post #16; especially like how the crop moved the road into the right third of the frame. My eye isn't groping for a focal any longer and you resolve the light / dark road contrast concerns...

    Thanks Robert. I'm still undecided which I like best but I can live with either one.
