A Visit To North Stradbroke Island

North Stradbroke Island is one of three large sand islands that form Moreton Bay to the east of Brisbane. There is no bridge to the island, only vehicular ferries. As a result, the island is relatively free from commercial and residential development although there is controlled mining on parts of the island for mineral sand.

We used to visit when the kids were young but haven't been there for years. It was a real buzz to visit again the other day and find things hadn't changed all that much.

Here are a few shots which hopefully illustrate the beauty of the place. The first is just an opportunist shot from the ferry on the way over. The other three are around North Gorge at Point Lookout.

    Comments welcome.

Dave, the last one is a classic and very well done. But the second one? Stunningly beautiful in it's uniqueness. The depth of the water, the eye drawing lines, the composition... it has it all!

I'm with Frank, Dave, I especially like the 2nd one, and I appreciate the inclusion of the branches in the top left to complete the frame.

Lovely shots. Have to say I like the 1st too, like the water, and the birds all higgledy-piggledy, probably making a great noise, and the reflections, and the afternoon light on the trees. As Mike said, makes me want to go there - my son lives in greater Brisbane.

Many thanks for your kind comments Bob, Richard, Frank, Mike, Greg, Kyle, Bruce, Izzie and Pania. Much appreciated.

Izzie the trail in 3 is a boardwalk that extends around the headland forming part of the North Gorge circuit walk.

This is one of my favourite places where I have been many times over the years but not since I had my camera. I have memories of walking around the track and swimming in the gorge. These pictures show the area off at its best.

Thanks Tony. Yes it is a great place, not over-commercialised like the Gold and Sunshine Coasts. If a bridge went in it might be a different story !
