Looks like a cricket of some sort.

Yes that was my thoughts as well. In the UK we have a Wood Cricket (Nemobius sylvestris) which is somewhat similar. Not something which I have ever seen though. Apparently they live amongst leaf litter etc and are flightless.
Also a Scaly Cricket (Pseudomogoplistes vicentae) which lives on shingle beaches and is fairly uncommon here.
And a couple of others which are accidental imports or escapees.

there does seem to be a consensus growing that it is a cricket.
