    The Skunk

This piece belonged to my wife’s grandmother. Granny B as she was affectionately known.

When ever we went to see her she would give my wife the big hugs and say (usually right in front of me) “so did you bring that skunk with you?” as she gave me a big grin!

That was my cue to step up and get my hugs!

She was a beautiful lady with a beautiful Spirit and loved her family more than anything else. She was loved not only by her own family but everyone who knew her. I was with her when she passed.

Funny, but for the last few days as I shot and processed this I kept hearing her her calling me a skunk and smiling at me!

    We miss her.

    100mm macro
    f/8
    1/200 second
    ISO 100
    Four lights fired.
    Nine shot focus stack.

I'll take your grandmother's word for it that you're a skunk but you're also one helluva product photographer. The detail that displays the cuts in the stones and the shapes of the curved metal including the clasps that hold the green stone in place is just wonderful. I'm gonna stick to photographing bottles, glasses and wine; they're at least ten times as easy to photograph.

What is creating the V-shaped grey tones with the highlighted edges at the top of the green stone? Is that the stone reflecting something or is some other material on the stone?

I am still laughing, Terri... will comment soon....

OK...it is 1:19am and I am up for a while. Are you a product photographer? Your shots are all almost flawless and unique in many ways. This is way too beautiful...

    Well thank you Izzie.

I’m just fascinated with light and what it takes to really light an object to its best. Although I’ve done pretty much nothing but product for the last year or so now. But Granny B had it right Izzie! I’m pretty much just a skunk!

Mike that is one helluva thing for you to say to me. It means a lot coming from one of my favorite photographers. Thank you sir.

What you are seeing is light being reflected off of two of the facets of the gemstone. Without which the cuts are not visible and just disappear into the green stone. I adjusted one of the lights to get them.

I appreciate you all taking the time to comment.
