    Mission Bridge

Explored a new place to walk today and managed to get a few pics in before one leg on my tripod developed a problem. The first one is an image of Mission bridge. This is something different than I normally try and do but I liked the repeating pattern of the supports under the bridge. The second image is just a nice spot near the bridge.

Any comments, feedback, critiques are most welcomed.

Two good shots Rita and nothing wrong with the composition of either. However, later in the day would probably have given you more interesting light and the first one is worth it.

I like both of them, Rita. #1 is a really study of lines and curvatures. #2 is a so-quiet and serene place that entice one to have a little break...read a book, play with the dog, have a picnic...or just be alone....

    Re: Mission Bridge

Thanks Izzie, the other thing to do at the quiet & serene place is to lose the piece off your tripod that locks one of the legs. Yup, somewhere near the table and it has vanished

Both shots are nicely composed, Rita. The first one is all about the lines so might be a good candidate for B/W conversion.

Hi Dan, thanks for the feedback. I am just finishing off a shot I did of the bridge this evening so I will try a conversion of #1 now as well. Will post the results shortly.

Good bridge shot, easy to see why you like it. I like the freshness of the leaves in the second.

    Re: Mission Bridge

I said this morning that I would try and get back to the location this evening, well, I did and here is one of the results.

    1. The sun highlights are blown here. I will keep woking on that.

    2. As requested by Dan. A quick B&W conversion of the original post. Not sure about this, what do you think?

    Re: Mission Bridge

I really like the night shot of this bridge Rita. The tones and structure really pop and others were right on in their suggestions in that regard. I think that the image needs a slight rotation as it is leaning a bit down to the left. Also, I wonder it a slight shift in your angle of shooting would have put the sun behind the pillar but, then again, I'm not sure if that would look odd

I also like your peaceful picnic spot...too bad about the tripod part that it stole though!

    Re: Mission Bridge

Shane, I appreciate your feedback. I agree with you about having the sun behind the pillar, that was my aim. However, I was right up against a construction site fence trying to get the extra angle I needed. Tried going to the other side of the construction but that was worse. The nice thing is that this is really close to where I live so now that I know about this spot I can return anytime to try again
I missed seeing the image leaning so I will fix that

If you don't use it already try the Photographer's Ephemeris to locate the angle of the sun at that location.

And why is it that there is always something in the way of the perfect shooting angle? I hate that!

    Re: Mission Bridge

Rita, although the lighting is more interesting in your second bridge shot, the first is a much better composition. The main detractor for me in the first image is its dazzling brightness. Try reducing the exposure by about one stop, together with lifting the shadows, saturation and clarity - that makes the image much more pleasing to view, in my opinion.

    Cheers.

Shane, I will take a look at the Ephereris.

If we didn't have things in the way our hobby would be too easy

Phillip, thanks for your feedback. I will try out your suggestion tomorrow. The evening image I intend to crop to be as close as possible to the original

    Re: Mission Bridge

I like the colour version of the bridge, Rita. The sun flare doesn't bother me and I prefer that composition because it shows the pontoons right down to the waterline. The only problem is the shadows are a bit noisy.

I like the black white treatment as well, I think you have done a good job converting that, but this composition crops out part of the first two pontoons (if that is what they are called).
