Interesting shot John, heck of a long way off and still crisp...

Cool shot, and I'll say it before Izzie does, I see a face in the lamp.

    Re: Lamp

I like lamp shots and I especially like the quality of the conversion. However, it seems cramped. I'd like to see it displayed in a vertical orientation with more space at the top and a little bit of the pole at the bottom.

    Mike,

Thanks for the comments and critique. Unfortunately, not much of the pole was photographed but I do have a bit more space at the top. I'll check to see if I have more images.

Now that you've made that improvement, consider cropping to either a square or vertical format.

Much better! Probably the best that can be done given the constraints in the format of the original image.

OK...Jack beat me to it -- I see a face in the lamp, OK? Happy, Jack??

Seriously John, I like the third crop. For such a long way, the lamp is very sharp. Really good. I like the B/W treatment too.

Thanks Isabel. When I tried the 2X extender in the camera shop, it was a shot similar to this that prompted me to buy. Now to get this kind of consistency with an action shot.

I don't understand those comments. Should we expect the sharpness of the image to vary solely according due to the distance between the camera and the subject? It's not as if this distance taken with a 310mm focal length is likely to have been so great that factors such as atmospheric conditions would have reduced the sharpness.

The question is -- how far are you was he from his subject with a 2x extender?

To Jack: You missed a little critter on the top left hand side of John's shot. I thought it was a small kitten, the one with the tail....

I understand that an extender was being used. It's the extender itself that can degrade the quality of the image, not the distance between the camera and the subject, at least if a normal crop was used to display the photo here. Unless maybe I'm missing something.
