    close-up lens test

My daughter has a set of screw-on close up lenses and let me borrow them.
I took this with the kit lens of my D5000 and one of the lenses (4x magnification)
It's not macro, I can just get a little closer....
Oh, I have no idea what kind of bug this is, but they're all over the place. Hope they don't sting!

Never had much luck with screw in supplementary lenses in terms of quality but there is no lack of quality here. Good image.

My thought on these attachments is that perceived performance will muh depend upon the scene shot and whether it contains (what ought to be) sharp detail up to the edges and in to the corners of frame - the place where these supplementary lenses will be most likely to show up problems

However, give it a scene like this, where the subject is centred and largely surrounded by out of focus background and it can pleasantly surprise.

    As this does,

Although you got the butt side of the insect, this is a good shot. I was thinking a few days ago that I would like to join the insectography club here and order some screw on lenses just for practice. If I ruin my first images I will not be too sorry...What brand is it, Kris?

Well, the bug has a nice butt.....
    The lens set is Vivitar.
My daughter got them from Amazon last year, but hardly uses them, So, now mom can play with them for a while....

Like many things in English, I misunderstood. Sorry Kris. I already got a set of those from my old film days. It was set of Arrows brand which I used in one of my bug-o-fest photoshoot. What I was thinking of buying is one of those macro focusing lens extender. Thank you for your response. I do appreciate it very much.
