    A Melancholy Mood

Mind you he's only two in this shot so I can't say what he was thinking but there's a certain maturity about his posture on that wall that's kept me coming back to this one. I can picture the expression that was probably on his face from just the profile.... In color there was nothing here, but the move to monochrome with a sepia tint seemed to draw the mood right out of the moment.

I cropped to preserve a 1/4 then 1/2 (subject area) then 1/4 layout, vs. the usual thirds...

(1/400, f2.8 (shallower than usual for me but DOF worked out), 85mm Full Frame lens via an LEA-2 adapter, about 12 feet from the subject). Post processed in Aperture 3.x, slight crop, minor adjustments

Good story telling Robert. Good choice of sepia mono as well.

I definitely agree, the mono-sepia tone really draws out a story; great image!

I agree with the above remarks - this is very nice - evinces mood very well. I would think there'll be some quibbling about crop, and I don't fully understand your description of how you arrived at this one, but I like it just as it is: dark to light/left to right works for me.

    Thank you Mark!

Regarding the crop: If this shot was a piece of paper you could fold 25% from the left and 25% from the right and roughly hit the angle/changes in the wall gradient on either side of him. For me that crop brought some balance to what would have otherwise been a subject just dead-center.
