    Dan and his horse Butch

This portrait was made for promotional purposes for Dan's horse carriage business.
I had some very important help to make this work.

Thank you Izzie and Kyle. Dan the owner was ecstatic when I sent him the proofs. I'm not even the owner and I felt so much pride in how majestic Butch looks. Click on the hyperlink to my blog post for behind-the-scenes look.

What a tremendous study of the pair.
I take Equestrian images for our school riders often, I will now ask the rider to dismount and get at least one with the heads together. They wont be this good, but thankyou so much for giving me an idea of a new perspective on something I do a lot of.

    Hello Kay,
You're very kind. I'm mostly a people photographer but I've seen enough drawings and paintings of horses to understand what makes them look elegant and beautiful. I've photographed horses in the past to know their attention span is very short. Worse than kids who can at least be bribed.

That's just excellent. The detail you have employed in the lighting set up e.g. the back lighting , just adds a finish that makes this special.

A really great shot although having read the blog I am sure the horse is looking at the carrot and better would have been to have the carrot on the camera so that horse was looking at camera like Dan ... frankly I didn't notice this until after I had read the story

Hi Pete - another beautifully executed image. It also seems a touch soft to me. I suspect that you are right, as per your previous post, the softness comes from the jpeg compression processs.
