    Catching some rays

Sometimes on a nice sunny day at the lake turtles can be found on logs catching some sun. This one was so nicely posing as if to say "take my pic". There are a couple of species of turtles in the lake, one of them being the painted turtle. Not sure if this is a painted or not. If it is they apparently are on the endangered species list.

    Any C&C is always appreciated.

Hi Rita. Nice capture. My only suggestion is to lighten the shadow areas a bit so we can see the detail under the shell and on his face a little better.

    John & Richard, thank you.

Ken, appreciate the feedback. Here is another try with the shadows adjusted to lighten the turtle. What do you think now?

That fellow is so well posed he's likely going to be sending you a bill with charges at Actors Union wages! Very nice image.

Hi Rita, when you've got a great image like this one, some of the potential changes can be personal taste rather than something that is right or wrong. My personal taste is that the amount of brightness added to the underside of the turtle should be around half of what was changed. My view may be neither right nor wrong, just different.

Hi Frank, I agree with you. After posting the second one I looked at it for awhile and thought that it was too bright for my taste. I will play with it some more and find a happy medium. Thanks for the feedback.

Ah yes! Now the underside looks more like it lit from the light reflecting off the log. Very nice compromise Rita. I like it!

    Jeffbridge & john, thank you.

Jannatul, the best way to do it is practice, post images on this side for feedback, and practice more. I wish I got them clear like this every time but I don't so I just keep practicing and posting. Don't give up

Frank, thank you. I ended up going back to square 1, the raw image, and started from scratch. I am happy with this result.

Little late to the party but yes to the last one, Rita. It is exceptionally good! If I tickle it a bit, will it smile? Naaahhh perhaps it will bite...Better stay away...

Rita, your image looks great with the shadows lightened. I am referring to the 2nd image. I understand we all have differing tastes, and perhaps our monitors display the images at different brightnesses.

    Re: Catching some rays

A great set of adjusted images which allow the reader to clearly see the changes from the original. My choice would be for the third version as for me the second one as well as lifting the shadows and allowing the viewer to see the eye it also changed the colour on the underside to have a much to bright yellow IYSWIM.
So Rita a excellent capture of your initial subject and a good learning for the reader, well done 👍
