    Iris at the front door

A couple of quick and simple shots of an iris in bloom at my front door step when I got home from work. The sun light light was diffuse. Sony NEX 6 on a tripod with a 30mm lens. I was a bit challenged holding acrylic boards behind the flower and operating the camera at the same time. A fun bit of photography.

This one would have been better without the shadow.

The gradient of the background was simply a result of the way I held the board behind the flower.

I wonder how it will look if you had put the acrylic down and shoot with a longer zoom, spot metering and positioned yourself a bit further to the flower...?? Then you can move as you will and contort as you will taking the shot. It is a beautiful iris. I have a whole heap of them in my backyard and frontyard and side yards. I like #1 but for the shadow...

You're very fortunate to have such a great welcome at the entrance to your home.

My ideal choice would be the lighter background without the shadow. The photo is so good that it would be well worth the trouble required to eliminate the shadow during post-processing.

Get some cheap rods that you can stick into the ground. Tape the boards to the rods. If you want to spend a little money, use clamps instead of tape.

Good shots! Kinda like the shadow, it adds something for me. Maybe realism.

I find the colours and the light better in #1, very nice shots
