Is a Sensor Spot Neutral Grey ?

Playing with an image tonight that was shot purely for WB experimenting and not as a competition entry I noted my friendly resident sensor spot and wondered if that could be the ideal location to set the theoretical WB on this image.

It would be neutral I assume, so I used it changing WB from 5900 to 6300 and the result being perfectly acceptable for the capture.

Is a Sensor Spot Neutral Grey ?
The sensor spot is below the moon to the left.

Now I fully understand that this does not necessarily provide the WB I want for a finished image but is my thinking way off?

No (No meaning I am disagreeing with you, yes your thinking is off). Apart from the characteristics of the dirt on the sensor it will also depend on the brightness and colour of the image area illuminating it.

You are both correct and I came to that conclusion also after trying it on a couple of other shots where the sensor spot was within an area of sky having more pronounced colour than the image above.

On the occasions when Colin and I agree there is a remote chance that we are right. I am delighted to have you confirm it....
