Emu Headshot
We ended up at an emu farm this afternoon, and I thought it might be fun to do an emu headshot,
The ambient light was terrible, and emus seem to be curious (they tried to bit my lens hood) and skittish (i.e. they are not as cooperative as human subjects and move quite suddenly. The shots were taken at ISO 6400, generally wide open so the DoF was razor thin. I tried to focus on the nearest eye...
The shadow on the right side is an out of focus bird. Nicely said, it was fun and I have some interestings shots...

Re: Emu Headshot
Your situation was certainly challenging and I imagine a lot of fun. This works for me, especially that the shape of the bird in the background forms a mirror image of the subject.

Great photo - I like Mike thought the background was a shadow or similar. And as you had fun, it makes the shot doubly good.

Very cute I don't think this composition would be so powerful, if you shot with a narrower aperture. I like the mostly blurred photo and one sharp curious looking eye.
