    Durdle Door

Hi all. I have not posted on this forum for quite some time now, what with being very busy with my new job coupled with having to move countries etc, but I hope to get more active from here on in.

I was hoping for some feedback on the following image. I took it whilst waiting for the sun to go down because what I was really wanting was some nice long exposures. Because I got to my location several hours before the sunset, I tried to make get at least one or two decent shots but I found it very challenging because the sun was still very bright and no clouds could be seen. Yes, this was int he UK and I was struggling to believe that the sky was cloud free.

The following image was taken on Saturday, just gone from a wonderful location known as Durdle Door which is along the Jurassic Coast in Dorset.

Furthermore, I put this border around it for presentation purposes. Some people might like it, other will not. What do you think?

I managed a 3.2 second exposure with the use of an inexpensive ND8 filter, which was screwed onto my Sigma 10-20mm lens and using a Canon 60D.

    Feedback is welcome.

    Is the horizon level Nigel?

I like the composition and exposure.

The largest foreground pale stone might have been better placed just a little further in to the shot and to camera left.

    Nice one,

Have you crossed Durdle Door of your list now, Nigel?

After that shot you won't need to go back there again. I don't think you are going to get a better one, at least from that angle.

    Cracking shot.

    Thanks for your comments.

Dave - At least, I thought it was straight but on close inspection, it might be out by maybe a millimeter. I see what you mean about the pale stone. I did not actually touch them at all but good point, maybe I could have moved that one to where you suggested. Many thanks for your feedback.

Tringa - Many thanks. I wanted to grab a nice sunset pic which I also did but not really from this angle but looking down. We will not discuss this shot too much at the moment because I have just added it to one of the mini comps.

I might revisit actually on a day where there is more cloud formation. If when I do visit, the skies are clear, I might stay on and do some star trails because there is very little light pollution.

Having said that, I am in no hurry to return and I did leave that location with an element of confidence in that I had captured at least a couple of keepers. Thank you very much for your feedback.

Its a great photo of a place that has been photographed a lot - you have made your image look like a postcard - which is another another compliment as there are some pretty bad one's of those around. If you're down on the Dorset coast again, strike a little further west and visit Lyme Regis - another place for some iconic shots.

    Wonderful photo!

I would enjoy seeing the foreground material exploited as the subject filling the frame. Those rocks descending into the water are just gorgeous.

Can't make up my mind about the white border but the image ticks all the boxes for me. Good work.

Thank you all for your comments. I appreciate your time and feedback.
I have a couple more from that shoot which I would like to bring to a thread but before that, I will chance my hand in these lovely friendly comps.

    Hi Mike.

Thanks for your comments. They are very much appreciated.

I have done some additional PP in regards to the FG. What do you think now?
