The Lava Tubes - Galapagos - Set 4

Dear fellows; On set 3, I showed an islet full of volcanic rocks (Tintoreras Islet). The islet has no volcano on it; the lava reached the islet by one of the many local lava tubes. The entire archipelago was formed by volcanoes activity, about 5 million years ago. This time I am sharing one of the lava tubes. This one is located on Santa Cruz Island and is open to visitation. It is located on a private property; you get there by taxi (4x4 truck) and pay the entrance straight to the owner, who will gently explain you about the tube, the geological formation, length of the path, etc. Also, ticket includes a flashlight (torch) that you return after finishing the trail and the owner, a madam, will gently offer you lots of different types of banana from the property (Ecuador is one of the biggest banana producers). This tube is over 2.000m long! Hope you like it. Next on: back to the animals.

6 - Getting out of the tube.

MOD EDIT - Put standard English 'a' into title to allow it to be picked up instead of system listing it as 'Unknown Title'

Amazing, Otavio. Both the explanation and the visual representation. All nice shots but the first one is particularly good for the details on the tube walls, interesting foreground, and fade to black in the distance. Well done.

Good images, but even better was that you captured the atmosphere. Brought back memories of caving: there are lava caves in Auckland also on private property, but no gentle explanations as you had. We were told it was a dry cave, about as dry as your adventure.

    Thanks

Superb images Otavio Did the light come from the torch or from your flash?

Great shots Otavio, I'm leaning towards #1, I like the whole composition and the fade to the center. Also the banding or veining patterns on the surrounding rock is very interesting.
Question; the striations on the tunnel walls, are they the result of molten lava flowing against the cooler tunnel, or from water action?

From the flash, Binnur. The torch was strong enough for us to walk inside there but it was like nothing to the camera's sensor. Cheers,

Hi, Jack. Thanks for viewing and commenting. Regarding the striations, I believe they were caused by the molten lava (although I did not ask this to the owner). Regards,

Fascinating Otavio and good photography. It's a place I would like to visit but I am never likely to do so. Your excellent photo journal is as near as I will get.
