    flicker

Here are a couple that I took yesterday of a flicker. It was up in a tree so there is a lot of leaves in the bg, wish there wasn't so much green but that's what was there. I attempted to darken the bg a bit to try and put the focus on the bird. On the first I should have had a faster SS. Of the 2 pics I far prefer second image.

Both images were at ISO 800, 300mm, f6.7, SS 1/500

    C&C always welcomed.

    Mmm? Both good though.

On the second one - right at the front of the beak. There is a bit of a halo. Be worth re-working to get rid of that.

Rita, I believe you have been a good critique of yourself. I am no bird shooter so I could not offer any help on how to "de-focus" the noisy BG except for using Gausian blur in pp.
BTW, love the close up of the bird's head in the second image.

These are both very nice but I prefer #1. It looks to me to be a natural background and the bird stands out well.

Lovely shots Rita I wouldn't worry about the BG in #1 , it is not distracting and the beautiful bird stands out very nicely.
