    Is this high key ?

Actually I have made it with PP by using a very pale grey background. Can this image be called 'high key' ? How does it look ? C&C appreciated

Not quite. What type of lighting and camera settings did you use? You have one portion of the image (right side) with angular lighting and the majority is either back lit or in a cast shadow.

Binnur - high key images are low contrast images that are predominantly light colours. Any shadows will tend to be quite soft.

    As John says; "not quite".

Thank you John and Manfred. It is not an image shot in a studio, it is a crop from one of my images taken outside in the midday. That's why there are bright and shadowy parts.I actually lowered contrast in general and applied some surface blur but appearently it didn't work out. High key photography is a very interesting and special type of photography. I have to learn about it more by reading and watching images. Thanks for commenting and warning me that 'it is not that easy '

What is the critical distinction between a high key image and an over exposed image?

The setup, both the image and the camera settings. You usually have to setup a high key image, although snowy scenes are a good example requiring very little photographer input. Over exposed images are just setup incorrectly in camera.

A high key image is properly exposed.

A lot of people make this mistake and seem to think that an image with blown out highlights is how high key is accomplished. Nothing could be further from the truth.
