Birthday Family Portrait
When its your birthday, you get to make the rules, so I took the opportunity to make the family gather together for a self-timer portrait.
I am very lucky to have us all happy and healthy.

Nicely done. How high is the camera positioned? I like how this shot is composed.

Re: Birthday Family Portrait
Kay this is a good family portrait. The light is excellent on everyone's faces. If the surrounding background is not of special importance, a square crop would bring more interest to the group. Nicely done. Happy birthday!

Very pleasing photo, Kay. I like the low camera angle. You should have more birthdays throughout the year to ensure that you get to set the rules more often.
I agree that a square format will work better but also appreciate that you'll have little choice in pre-manufactured frames. If you don't want to go to the expense of a custom frame, try an 8 x 10 aspect ratio. Also consider using a slight vignette to draw the viewer's eye toward those good-looking subjects.

Re: Birthday Family Portrait
Thankyou everyone for your comments and suggestions.
The idea for the 'shoot' was to update a very old family photo we have framed, so I wanted to leave myself a bit of room, so that we can have a try what looks best with different crops, aspect ratios etc, but I didn't think of square, so that's a good tip!
The angle came about as I can often crop off feet in my framing, when I don't mean too, and our son is about 6ft 4 or 5 tall & our daughter is about 5ft tall, so I wanted his head in the frame as well.
Thankfully she is very happy about being short as she likes to wear high heels.
The background is not significant, other than it was a very grey day, so I wanted no sky in the frame & the ground was wet, so they wouldn't sit down. Thus I chose an aperture to make sure I got everyone in focus, including me when I ran in. I thought if I went to narrow, I could be in bother.
Thankyou all again, I will post some crop/edits when it comes round to framing time, for opinion & advice.
