Some snaps of the National Arburetum

I went out on spec yesterday and accidently bumped into a million police, but they was very nice, I think.

I took these and criticism is wecomed, one I took last year but it would feel incomplete without it. Some are HDR others are not. cheers

Hi Steve - I never knew we had a National Arboretum; I must take the trouble to visit. The two shots that I find most inetresting are nos 4 and 5, the close-ups of the (bronze) statues. I've tried to take similar images elsewhere and I never seem to get the exposure correct. You have. Is there a secret? The only thing that I might suggest is to somehow partially blur the background wall and shadows. Otherwise, these images capture to power of the work.

No 6 is the one where HDR is working to advantage, bright discernible exterior with a reasonable interior exposure. Personally, I might work on it a bit more to see if I could make the interior slightly less "HDR"-like, but I guess I'm just expressing personal taste.

    Cheers

This is the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. Here http://www.thenma.org.uk/

The National Arboretum is in Westonbirt, Glouscestershire. Here http://www.forestry.gov.uk/westonbirt

I've only been to Westonbirt, which I can thoroughly recommend. Must confess, I didn't know about the other one. Nice shots Steve. I must pay it a visit.

I didn't know about the other one either. Cheers rob. I don't use special rules for the bronzes David, I just note they are very dark and I don't mind blowing the background. Two are HDR which are the complete statues because I wanted a little detail in the shadows.
But the interior isn't HDR, it is taken using a flash since there is a flag close by and then I use a strange sharpening technique to make it look a little more interesting to me.
The silver bird are the only other HDRI's. cheers

Nor can I, mate. But if you use Fire-fox browser with the British English dictionary 'add-on' it highlights incorrectly spelt words, and by right-clicking it lists possible alternatives. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3366

I like the 'grey squirrel' gun, but doesn't it damage the trees too?

    Good series Arith,

As the other David, I thought the interior was classic "tone map look", and hadn't spotted the flash (shame on me )

    I must pay more attention.
    I must pay more attention.
    I must pay more attention.

My favourites are #4 and the penultimate one (first silver bird).

    Cheers,

Hi Guys - You live and learn - two places to visit. I had wondered why there was a large artillery piece in a park devoted to trees. And I too was fooled by the Wrens interior shot.

    Cheers

It is a really big place and I couldn't get around all of it; royalty and the prime minister were there and I'm getting used to my Lowpro backpack and it is really fiddly and heavy. Previously I used a Canon shoulder thingy which was easy but at least I can take all my equipment.
They have a really nice restaurant which was needed, and a kiddies assault course minus the kiddies plus seats everywhere. It is easy to get to even if you don't have a car because buses run hourly from Lichfield and Burton.
    Well that's like an advert.

I saw a lot of expensive camera's more 1Ds's than I've ever seen used by the gentlemen and women of the press, the woman had a Nikon though.

    Nice shots Arith.
I mentioned this Arboretum to my wife with the intention to visit.
Whilst delivering some fuel one day I got chatting to a chap who had worked on the construction of the site and told me it is well worth a visit, so we will be making the effort.

It certainly is; car parking is £2 all day and the bus £4.80 all day midlands saver, Lichfield station is opposite the bus park. Entry is free and you can get a cooked meal for around £7. It is a lot bigger than I thought and getting better all the time.

Number four. The statue facing us looks as if he has come to life and is trying to relay a message like, "Is this what you wanted?" with his eyes. Eerie in a good way.

We have many old (by our standards ) fortress sites, cenotaphs and some military sites in this area (Atlantic Canada). I've never heard the term Arburetum before, though. New word.

    Hi,
In my opinion a memorial place asks more dramatique than informal shots.
    Please compare yourself.

I could see the third photograph, the gate-brick wall-tree, used in a slide show coupled with photos of the same scene at different times of the day.
