I've never seen a group of silos without a nearby building, so there's no reason for me to consider eliminating it. I would consider eliminating the house that is behind it.
A very pleasing photo. Well done!
Hi Andrew,
I find the boat incongruous - and superfluous if the subject is the silos.
I read your 'cramped' comment, but disagree in as much as I do think the white building 'dilutes' the image too much.
I actually suggest a crop at the apex of the house behind the building, losing its chimney, the boat on trailer - and placing the strong vertical element on the left third, rather than half way across.
Nice light and good exposure, and it is sharp, by the way.
Hope that helps,
Nice as is, but you could have really worked the scene and come up with many variations.
As often happens this was an opportunistic shot on private property that I would have been uncomfortable spending too much time on. With nobody around to ask permission I opted for a few quick shots and continued down the road. I might otherwise have been there for hours!
I prefer the revised version mostly for the improved position of the vertical aspect of the composition.
The presence of the boat on the trailer didn't bother me because that's so typical of rural, agricultural scenery that it fits in. On the other hand, it certainly doesn't hurt to omit it.
I agree Mike, the boat is so typical in our area that I felt it added to the story.
I like the crop
