    RC camera

Had one flying over an event today. Not sure if this looks static or common method of capturing such a device. No editing, just a grab shot.

    Hi John,

That looks like a Phantom DJI - a medium size quadricopter.

    Colin,

I just did a Google search and could find only one decent photo of a Phantom DJI, most were being fitted for a camera.

    Hi John,

I don't think I'm understanding you correctly - I found thousands of photos:

    https://www.google.co.nz/search?q=Ph...w=1920&bih=951

They're a pretty popular low-cost quad for photography. I'm waiting for the Align performance version ...

    Colin,

This explains my limited search, I used DJ1 instead of DJI.

    Colin,

I was reading the comments below the video and there quite a few negative comments from users, but the ALIGN group kept popping in to assure viewers that improvements are coming.

Keep in mind that there are a lot of "Macho Men" around when it comes to helicopters - and they all have "Macho opinions" (you know, the ones that are always right ... even though they've never designed a helicopter - marketed one - or even run a business for that matter).

Keep in mind too, that the product isn't even out yet.

What we know so far though it ...

    - up to 20 min flight time

    - quad to hex upgrade

    - retractable landing gear

All looks pretty good to me.

I fly Align helicopters and their are lots of "Macho opinions" on them too - it's actually quite irritating because I know their 450 and 550 models inside out and they're absolutely fine - and yet a small but vocal minority seems to always have "problems" with them (which are never their fault of course -- and of course they NEVER had these problems with "Brand X"!

At the end of the day, customers vote with their wallets, and these guys have a HUGE share of the market. Nuff said

I liked the look of that one Colin

A couple of click and views further along and I found this, which I thought impressive from an engineering POV

    Underwater Multicopter

Of course, I can't see it working so well in anything but the dead calm conditions one might find in the kitchen sink

    Cheers,

    Cheers,
That's a pretty neat trick. I've dropped a couple of mine into the sea in the past year or so and shall we just say "it didn't end so well"!

If you're REALLY after an eye-opener, take a look at this:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2itwFJCgFQ

I personally think it's one of the most interesting and informative videos on the net. Fascinating as to what they're doing with the technology - and a darn fine presentation to boot!

I like the quads because they can hold a camera. The helicopters would be equally desired if they could do the same.

We can mount cameras to helicopters too, but it becomes a different kind of exercise; quads are inherently stable whereas helicopters are inherently unstable (plus, vibrations are an issue)

Here's a good example of a video shot from a heli that no quad will ever match

Some pretty good flying there and quite a few hair raising moments, I feel it was as you were directly over traffic.

I think it passed over the main road a couple of times. Camera was mounted to mostly look forward (probably about 40 degrees to horizontal)
