    Water Skiing Take 2

I managed to get out this morning and tried the water skiers again. This time I used continuous shutter, a faster shutter speed, and a better vantage point. Both pics were taken in shutter priority mode. The skier is on the right side of the spray this time, not buried in it, and I think the images are better than my first attempt but there is still room for improvement

Any thoughts, feedback, critique.......is greatly appreciated.

3, And just for fun, a seagull. He just didn't quit want to look at me. Perhaps a little camera shy.

Just to say that I adore the 2nd image for the sharp capture of the skier, and the incredible beauty of the wave. I love the composition of the wave in the background with the frothy white water in the foreground.

Are you using a polarizing filter? It might help keep more detail in the wake shots.

Nice shots. I also like the second one. Techs look pretty good. Compositionally a challenging subject. One has to include enough of the spray to be interesting yet keep the skier large enough to be the primary subject. It would take me a few sessions to sort it out.

The gull was likely looking at something that offered a potential meal.

Hi Rita, great captures on both water skiers. I prefer the second one by just the fact that the leading edge of the wave is seen and completes the effectiveness of the lines and angles presented in this composition.

Thank you all for the feedback.

Christina, the frothy water in the foreground was created by the boat.

Brian, I did use a polarizer, I remembered to put it on this time Without it the spray was just a big glare.

Dan, add to your list the speed the skiers are going and yes, it is challenging. It is a challenge that I am really enjoying. I plan to keep trying it until I get it mastered and the result will end, I hope, with better skill in other areas of photography too.

Frank, I wish I could say that I planned that but it was just luck. By the way, I am starting to get the idea of masks

Excellent Rita! Next time I'm sure it will be more by planning and less by luck! Speaking of learning masking techniques, although there is nothing wrong with your image and strictly playing with it for personal preferences, I used masks to see what might be effectively changed.

Just for fun, I played with increasing the brightness and contrast of the spray, decreasing the contrast and increasing the brightness of the skier and did some Dodge and Burn of the foreground. The result is a personal preference kind of different, but not necessarily any better that the original that you posted. I find that by playing like this I discover what options might be available for different types of images and how to achieve them.

Very good shots Rita, I remember your first ones and these are far superior. But, that is why we are all here to learn from the comments and take better shots not just to be a gallery for accomplished photographers.
