    More monochrome sunlit trees

I was interested in Matt's post as I too felt compelled to capture a stand of trees bathed in the light of the setting sun. Mine were lit from the side, with the lake in the background and they were on fire. Unfortunately, the colour version didn't do anything for me; had no idea how to reproduce in PP the scene as it was (golden trees, blue water) so I decided to give it a try in black & white. I know it is not a great composition, but my main aim is to process it in such a way that the viewer knows what they are seeing, i.e. late evening sun. C&C welcome.

Janis, with the description as context, IMO as presented the image is way too flat. At least for me, to get the impression of the light as you described, in monochrome it would need to be really high contrast between the lit and shaded side of the trees. By tweaking the blue channel you might also be able to darken the water in the BG thereby further enhancing the lit side of the trees.

Sounds good in theory anyway. I've got a total of a couple dozen monochrome conversions under my belt in total. So give my opinion appropriate weight.

Thanks, Dan. I'll give it another go.
