    Conversation on the Jetty

Just back home from my weekend in a cottage in what is, arguably, one of the most spectacular locations in Scotland - right at the south end of Loch Lomond looking north.

I've posted various images over the years that I've been back into photography (although been going to the cottage for a weekend for the last, we reckon, 19 years).

Always looking to do something other than my usual landscapes.

    Comments and criticism always welcome.

Donald, a great shot of sun and friends. One can just imagine the colour of the reflexions on the water:golden rays perhaps?

Nicely done, just the right amount of local color within the silhouettes.

I just wonder about a crop from the top to give somewhere around 5 x 4 ratio? Unless, of course, you particularly want a square image.

    Thanks for the comments folks.

Geoff - I did capture it specifically for the square crop, but hopefully always remain able to hear (read) what others say and always take account of it.

Mike - The guys had been working all day on their boat. They were back the next day (Sunday) doing the same again. At the end of the day they got it out on the water for a short time. Before he left to go home, the guy on the left came up to me and asked if I'd taken any photos of the boat on the water, as it was the first time it had ever been out since he bought it. He was feeling very proud of having got it ready.

Luckily I did and am going to send them to him, along with this one.

That is spectacular, Donald. I can almost see the gold in the sparkle.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Dear Donald,

I had to look twice at the man in his striped shirt. The patterning blended so well with the water ripples that he almost looked transparent!

Nice image. I can see why you converted to black and white. The silhouettes against the water became the primary focus.

I really like this image. The definition on the pier gives substance to the image, more than if the pier itself had been all black...

Good shot, Donald. I like silhouettes of people as they allow the body language to generate the narrative. I am wondering why the jetty appears to slope downwards, though. Is it a floating jetty?

Again, thank you for your comments. As some of you observed this has been kept just up from absolute '0'; i.e. black. I wanted to try that to see what the effect would be and I do like it.

Greg - Yes it is. It replaces the old concrete jetty that was there for ? years and which, I think, could have easily been repaired for much less than this, apparently, cost. Members of the boating community who use the jetty that I spoke to were quite critical of it.
