Well it's not Pointer's but same idea and, sorry, it's in CIELAB space but apart from that . . . .

. . . we can still see that lightness (L*) affects whether a particular chroma value (a*, b*) is inside the gamut or out. Same applies to any other space - including the Phabled ProPhoto so beloved by many ;)
