Angle from the second edit looks good enough to continue working on. You can try to do a quick selection around the spider and modify contrast or modify the reddish section of the flower.

I think that you inserting sunglasses was a nifty idea.

I think you can get away with a fraction more overall brightness, Brian; but I would leave the spider partially disguised amongst the same colour flower. So it isn't initially obvious until you look a little harder.
