    Porch roses

    I don't shoot flowers in situ very often...venturing onto my front porch though, I could handle that.
    First one has a shallow DOF...second one a bit more.

    I like the second one best. I agree with you about the shadow in the first. But there's lots of nice detail in the second and a nice background too even though more of it shows.

    Nicely done, I like the second also, getting it out of the shadows really work for this subject.

    I was wondering about doing the same thing, as I do, as of late, tend to shoot black background with flowers.

    #2. A tad bright in the middle but that is ok.

    #2 for me too, may be you can decrease the brightness in the middle with PP
