    The Escape!

This was not the best capture of the day but it was fun to post process and try to address some of the background issues involved. The image was taken with an HTC EVO 4G in Cabela's Outfitters in Hamburg, PA.

EDIT: Applied a slight vignette as per Marie's suggestion.

    The Escape!

Here is a link to the original diorama.

EDIT: I just realized that the link doesn't go directly to the diorama in question but it is viewable at images 42-44/50 at the bottom of the page.

    Hi, Frank!

You're getting closer to my digs!!!! I love the dioramas at Cabela's!

You have done a really nice job with this. I wonder if a very slight vignette would be in order?

Hi Marie, I replaced the original with one having a slight vignette. I keep forgetting to do that so thank you for reminding me.

Here is the original before clean-up in post processing...

    The Escape!

EDIT: You can compare the before and after images in Lightbox by using the directional arrows to switch between the two images.

It is. I'm in my lunch break at work and clicked on Frank's link. In return I got:

I was about to ask where you captured this beautiful image and how, and then you posted the original.

Dang Donald! You do work in a restrictive environment! LOL! At least they don't restrict animal nudity. Tell them to not look at the 'on sale' items.

Hi Christina, they just opened a Cabela's near us in South Carolina but their wildlife photography options are no where as prolific as their store in Hamburg. As I get a chance, I'll post some images from the their local outlet. Thank you for the encouraging feedback!

I love what you did with the background, and you have preserved a 3D appearance amazingly.

    Re: The Escape!

    Hi Frank,

I thought the beautiful white animals with antlers were called Cabelas! I should've known something was up when I saw the leopard with the poor little deer in the upper corner. All that action captured in one just one shot.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing the rest.

You certainly could, and at the time I snatched this image, I also got a shot or two of the real "Gotcha" about to happen to the youngest Kudu that is just out of sight to the right. Another perspective of this diorama can be seen here and 8 posts earlier in the set referenced in the link.

Thank you Kevin! I didn't originally post this image because it was beyond my capability to cleanup the background at the time and because it wasn't as good a shot as I referenced above in my reply to James.

If you do happen to go back to the first images posted from this set, you'll note that the 3D effect was noticed back then as well. I can only guess at the reason, but I'd sure like to learn how to predictably duplicate the 3D 'look' for future images like this. Thanks again for the comments!
