    Photography quiz 1

This photo is taken by one of my Chinese friends in Facebook (his name is in Chinese alphabet so I don't really know his name)
I was impressed by the shot and wondered if anybody knows what's the technic behind the shot.

I have my own opinion which I'd share later on

You have posted a thumbnail. It is therefore impossible to make any comment whatsoever on the image as it's far too small to see.

Also, I think you would be advised to secure the person's permission before reproducing their picture on here.

Well it's Facebook, and as the 'owner' of the image you lose all rights. But is looks like panning to me which at night is easy to achieve with a slower shutter speed, without the need for an ND filter.

Hi Phil, I doubt if it's panning. It's just the bicycle seems so sharp and can't imagine to sync the camera movement this accurate.

    I thought it's slow flash.

My read is that it is panning as well, based on the type of motion blur. The light streaks are not completely straight, so that is consistent with a hand-held, slow shutter speed pan.

Definitely not flash, as I don't see any signs of light drop-off or motion trails that would be consistant with flash with dragging the shutter. If you look at the shadows / reflections of the bicycle, the shot has a high back-light component.

It may be an accidental pan. The light streaks are pretty short for an intentional pan. The bike may be moving very slowly at a near stop to let traffic go by. The umbrella position would indicate that.

    Still a nic

Binnur - that was one thought that crossed my mind, but if you look at the reflection of the bicycle in the puddle, that would be a non-trival thing to do in post. Unfortunately, there is no useful metadata available in the image file.
