I love the featureless, contrasting BG. And the light in the eyes is awesome. You might consider cropping the left side a bit to position the animal so it's moving into the frame. Not centering the head but closer to center at least. Nicely done.

Any doubts over the evolutionary link between dogs and wolves would be removed by that look. Good image Chuck but I agree with Dan's suggestions.

    Re: Buster

Nice demonstration of a high key shot not taken in a studio! I find that the shadows cast by the legs really are an important compositional element, as it gives the context that it is walking on the ground, rather than hanging in space. I might be tempted to go to a more neutral gray, rather than blue shadow in post. I know that we often get those blue shadows in snow shots, but it somehow looks a bit odd and out of place.

I'm with Dan (and others) on the crop as well. It's a very good shot already and a bit more tweaking with make it even better.

If I didn't have a nearly white and a pure black dog, I'm not sure I'd be able to appreciate how hard it is to nail the exposure and process it realistically to obtain an image this good. Well done.

Thank you all for your kind remarks, and suggestions on how to improve the image. Attached is a version with a different crop.
