How to focus with a 10 stop ND filter ?

I tried my ND filter on a cloudy afternoon in winter time and it actually didn't take me more than 3 minutes . So a 40 minute exposure is really long for me I will see what happens . I will keep your words in mind , thanks again

The 40 minute exposure was taken at night, with no ND filter.

To be really honest, I think I'd find a 10-Stop ND filter to be a bit like having only one size spanner when servicing a car; somewhat limiting.
