    Sunset - 1

Because I don't have any GND filters yet, I had to do some more PP for this image. I will be uploading some more of sunsets in the following days and then I will try to shoot some sunsets with long exposures for your comments again. So, I would very much like to have your opinions about composition and PP

Great shot Binnur. Maybe try cropping some off the bottom, on the lower left hand side, about halfway between the bottom of the image and where the small waves begin to break?

Hi Binnur, I like this , but as I am very much a novice in photography I'm not sure if I can help or hinder you, however I would move to the right to get more of the pier in the image and take shot slightly lower down to make the pier lead more into the shot. I'll be following this to see what advice you get

Hi Gerry . I actually shot quite a lot of compositions and I have some images with more of the pier from lower angles. I will upload one of them into a different thread after editing

Here is the crop as Jack suggested. IMO the image lost some mood by cropping, but your thoughts are more important than mine, because I'm learning and improving with your comments

I like both images, but the cropped one seems better, less forground seems to me to be more.

I would like to see the start of the pier, but that might not be possible with this image, it is already far enough away.
    Love the clouds.

Nicely done, if you want to really get into the GND filters for sunset/sunrise than you need a reverse GND filter and they can get costly. What they are is the darkest part of the filter is in the middle and gets lighter as it reaches the top, I use a 3-stop make by Singh-Ray.

Until you decide that you are going that route, I would do it in myself in PP (ACR) using the gradient tool as long has I have not blown any highlights PP will do a pretty good job.

Lots of good compositions to be made from this one. Consider eliminating about half of the sky to put the emphasis on the texture in the rocks.

    Re: Sunset - 1

I agree with Jack's suggestion to crop some of the rocks out of the frame, but I think the crop you did has removed a tad too much. If you want the sunset to be the subject of the image, then you need to crop a bit of the bottom. If you want the rocks to be the subject then follow Mike's suggestion.

Personally, I think the sky is much more interesting but that is for you to decide.

Thank you Allan I agree with you about not buying GND filters until I decide my route in photography. PP takes a bit longer than usual but I can cope with it for the time being.

    Re: Sunset - 1

Hi Mike. I would never guess you would suggest cropping the sky in this image because the sky is quite busy. But because of your deep knowledge and experience in photography, you can spot things that I can't. So, thanks for the suggestion, I have just tried it on my laptop screen by covering the sky with a book and it seems to work fine. So, I will certainly crop the image and save it as another version of this image

Hi Greg. You actually solved my problem. As I mentioned in the post with the cropped image, I wasn't very comfortable with the crop but I couldn't figure out why I think it is because I cropped it too much. So I will try cropping less. Thanks for the suggestion Mike's suggestion gives another composition and I will try it too and I will keep both versions in my files

There is an easier way to quickly see the effect of a crop: Click the image to view it in the Lytebox. Then click and hold while moving the image "past" whatever side(s) of your monitor that you prefer.
