Re: Monopod
A really interesting design, and for some types of shooting, probably a big advance. However, for my purposes--I won't use mine as a boom--I think a conventional monopod is probably superior. My current monopod is an Oben 2500 carbon fiber, which weighs about a pound (470 g), has a range from 17 to 65" (44-165 cm), and holds 26 pounds (11.8 kg). The Mogopod is aluminum, has a range from 27 to 62", weighs 1.6 pounds, has a load capacity of 10 pounds, and costs a bit more. In terms of features, the one possible big plus of the Mogopod for me would be the extension system; I'd like to see whether I could adjust the height on the fly more quickly than I can with standard twist locks, which is important for macro. The optional feet for the Mogopod are offered for other monopods as well, including Obens, but I wouldn't trust my camera and lens to such a narrow base.
