    St Davids Cathedral

St Davids is a small country town but it gains the status of a City by dint of its Cathedral. It is in fact the smallest Cathedral city in the UK. During our recent short break, I found myself spending a fair amount of time with a camera in the Cathedral and it's grounds. This set are of the Cathedral itself both inside and out. (Binnur, the table top tripod in use on the floor of the East Aisle.)

Exceptional series, John. You were very fortunate to have a vantage point that allowed making the first photo and you took full advantage of the opportunity.

I forgot to mention in the last one to consider cropping just below the step up onto the altar area.

All exceptionally beautiful! Amazing detail. My favourites are #2 & #4 for the light and the lines, followed by #7

Great images John The lighting is so good that it makes me think that if you used a special technique like HDR ?

    Thanks all for the comments.

Mike agree with your crop suggestion but perhaps only to just below the chairs. The lower part of the comp isn't adding much. The Cathedral sits in a lovely little river valley within the confines of the town itself with the entrance up the hill. The viewpoint is from the gatehouse but more of that in another set of images of the grounds.

Binnur, some tone mapping on the first image but the remainder have just been processed in CS6. I went early to avoid the crowds but it had the advantage that the light was from over the end of the building on what was a bright overcast day. So no directional light across the church - often a problem - and the contrast was manageable.

That's actually what I meant. My explanation wasn't precise enough.

It's a funny thing Mike, I had actually seen the bright spot in the floor as a bit of a lead into the comp but cropping it gives more balance to the main part of the subject. You sometimes need others to see these things.
