    monitor help

I have just purchased a samsung monitor which I have connected my laptop. I am currently at the stage of attempting to balance the two screens. I have access to spyder calibration. the problem I need help with is screen resolutions. Monitor recommends 1920x1080. My laptop maximum res is 1280x800 what do I do?
    Hope you can help.Colin

    Hi Colin,

Are you saying the tool does not give you your laptop's maximum resolution as an option for the laptop profile? In lieu of the "recommended" resolution, you should be able to choose the laptop's maximum native resolution to build the profile for the laptop. If not, you may have to confine your editing to the external display.

If I am not mistaken, many computers have video systems that can only use one profile at a time, and if so, you are unlikely to get both looking right at the same time. I have dual monitors attached to my desktop, and only the larger is properly calibrated for that reason.

I don't think this is correct (but is dependent on the operating system), my Windows 7 machine has a separate profile for both screens. I don't think it can handle more that two screens.

That being said, Colin, use each screen at its native resolution to get the best quality. My main editing machine runs one screen at 1920 x 1280 and the second one at 1920 x 1080. I normally use the larger, higher quality screen to do the actual editing and park my menus and other "stuff" on the other one.
