    Dinner and Desert

I've recently started teaching myself to cook and bake. Tonight I made my wife some Baked Vegetable Ziti and Banana Bread for dessert. I figured this would be a perfect time to try and take some nice photos of food. I think these photos look delicious but then again I've never photographed food before.

Are you shooting wide open? To me it doesn't work with the first image, nothing appears sharp except a bit of the ziti. Shooting wide open is fine for the second image, however the crumbs are a bit of a distraction.

Just keep in mind that you are embarking on a potentially addictive habit, especially when you add photography to the mix.

These two images are really great for starting shots. There is lots of information about how to photograph food and I highly recommend Food Photography by Nicole S. Young.

A good way to remember how to spell "desert" and "dessert" (I want all the help I can get in the area of spelling.): The food is spelled with two S's because, just like the food itself, you always want more of it.

Shadowman, I get what you're saying but I only wanted the ziti to be sharp and have the wine slightly out of focus. I agree that I should have gotten rid of the crumbs. Thanks for the opinion.

Haha, thanks for correcting my spelling. I've edited the post. I'm surprised that I misspelled it since I live in a desert and I usually spell correctly when typing...weird. Anyways, thanks for the book suggestion and I completely agree with you that I've started an addictive habit of cooking and baking mixed with photography lol. At least both are constructive and one is delicious so far.
