    Geranium - a new way

Inspired by a couple of articles I read recently, today I decided to try a different slant on photographing the flowers in my garden - in camera movement (ICM) - had fun - loads of rubbish, but a couple of keepers. Here is one where I moved the focal length during exposure. Thoughts for improving the technique welcome - I'd like the centre slightly sharper but don't know if this is possible ??

Nice effort, perhaps trying double exposure if your camera is capable. It would probably require a larger background so that you could overlap each flower with one being the more dominant layer, the other being more translucent.

    Hi Kaye,

Just to say that I love the dreamy look, the soft colours and the detail captured. I too would like to see the center of the flower a little sharper but I don't know if that is possible or how one would accomplish this. I suspect that it is something you just keep trying until that lucky shot comes around.

PS I love all your flower shots.

John, thank you so much for the tip.......I tried again this afternoon and came up with this shot which achieves the defined centre I wanted. I used two shots and layered one on top of the other and then decreased the opacity in the sharp shot apart from the central section. The petals aren't so dreamy this time but I like the background effect which you suggested.

Thanks Christina - they are a bit of an obsession and combines my two hobbies nicely. Need to find another subject for next year though............................
