SD card not write

I have a Nikon D7000. It has two memory card slots. I use number 2 card for "overflow". Recently I noticed that my photos had not been going onto #1 card, even though it was less than half full. My photos were going straight to #2 card. So how could that be?

It transpired that the locking slide on # 1 card had partially moved back toward the lock position, enough to prevent the camera from writing to it. This can only have happened when I inserted the card.

Has anybody else encountered this, and how can you be really sure that it won't happen again?

Yes, but then I would be unable to lock it should I wish!

But, then, when have I ever locked a memory card?

You are right Colin (as you usually are). CA glue is definitely an answer. Many thanks.

A couple of thoughts

First - have you tried alternative sd cards in #1 ? Other people have reported a similar issue which was resolved using a card by an alternative manufacturer to the first.

Second - purely procedural - do a test shot with only #1 in (especially if you have taken it out to transfer images) before (re)inserting #2

Thanks for your thoughts, and, yes, I did consider those things. But I have many cards already, all Kingston, so to mix or change brands as you suggest is not the best option for me at the moment. But well worth consideration I feel, and a tip that other members might find useful. Also, regrettably, I am disinclined to do test shots and move cards around. Life's too short!

I have tried what Colin suggested, a spot of Cyanacrylate glue, applied with the tip of a cocktail stick. I cannot move the offending lock slide now, so I am doubly sure that it will not be moved as the card is being inserted. Job done!
