Broke stuff
Something I considered but never followed through with...
I do a lot of shooting with extra stuff between my camera and lens,TC's and extension tubes, which
leads to unsupported weight, regardless whether you lens mount or camera mount on that tripod.
My tripod tipped over and the extension tubes broke, the 180 macro broke, and the memory card door
on the camera is jammed shut due to, in my belief, this unsupported weight factor.
Does anyone make a long gizmo plate to mount both the camera and lens onto prior to mounting the
whole set-up onto that tripod?

Re: Broke stuff
Try looking at Really Right Stuff, then have a long lens support package that might work for you. I have included the link to their site and the page.

Hope this will be of some help.

Support mechanisms are quite common for people that use DSLRs for video work. Rail type supports are really commonly used for these types of purposes.
Look up companies like RedRock Micro, Cinivate, Letus, CPM, etc. I'm sure that there must be cheap Chinese knock-offs available on e-Bay as well.
