A Neglected landscape - SOOC x PP version

    Dear fellows,
I found this image on my Galápagos files and, although the SOOC (Straitght out of camera) image is quite unattractive, I thought that a decent PP could make it look better. In my opinion, what makes it look bad on the SOOC is that although the sky is quite clear, the foreground volcanic rocks are still dark. But I knew that a beautiful light was hidden there, as I shot it during golden hour and remember the scene as it was when I shot this. Well, here are both the SSOC and the PP version. Critics and coments are welcomed, as always. Thanks for viewing.

    Regards,

I like this demonstration of how your PP image has a lot more "pop" than the SOOC version. Some might criticize the overdone blue in the sky (actually I like it); you have an almost painterly look in your second image.

To pull your chain just a bit, in the interest of humor mind you...does that horizon tilt just a tad?

Chauncey, my friend...everything in Galápagos is amazingly different and that includes the horizon level. Happily, we can correct it with PP!

Hello, Manfred. Thanks for viewing and commenting. Yes, I wanted to show that PP can really pop an image. Also, our eyes have far more dynamic range than any camera (as of today's ones). I really remember seeing a very blue sky at the moment I shot this scene, although my camera didt recorded that. The high luminance level from the bright sky washed a bit (much?) of the blue that my eyes were seeing! It is nice we can "recover" and even overdo this by the use of PP. Thanks and regards!

If you find you have overdone things, just dial back the satuaration a bit and that will often work.

Excellent example of PP skill. The processed version is nice for technical aspects as well as being well composed. Good job, Otavio.

Back then in meant throwing out the print and trying again.

I spent enough time in the wet darkroom to have done that more than my fair share of times....

Nice improvement Otávio. Just goes to show that in some cases, the image isn't all it can be until the post processing is done properly.

Hi, Frank! That was my humble intention with this thread. I am glad that (it seems) I could express it. Thanks for your valuable feedback. Cheers,
